From the Sacramento or San Francisco Bay Area, three routes available:
I-80 to I-505 North to I-5 to Red Bluff, CA. Take Hwy 36 East to Hwy 89 South (for 3 miles) and turn left at Lake Almanor
West. This is the quickest and safest (less curves) but still scenic.
I-80 to Hwy 113 North to I-5 South to Hwy 99 North to Hwy 70
East to Hwy 89 North to Lake Almanor West. This will take you through the Feather River Canyon which has tunnels, trains,
rivers, bridges i.e. can be breath-taking scenic!
I-80 to I-505 North to I-5 North to Chico Orland Hwy 32 East Exit. East on Hwy 32 to Chico and North on Hwy 32 to Hwy
36. East on Hwy 36 to Hwy 89 South (for 3 miles) then turn left at Lake Almanor West. The stretch of Hwy 32 north of Chico
is very scenic but 25 miles of curves thru the Cascades.
From the Reno area:
U.S. 395 North from Reno to Susanville, CA. West on Hwy 36 through towns of Susanville and Chester. Turn left/south on
Hwy 89 for 3 miles. Turn left at Lake Almanor West.
